During 1968-9 the old Bournemouth steam shed was demolished. Here are a few photos. The quality is not fantastic, but I hope it is a useful record of the shed's demise.

Between Salisbury and Wilton Junction there are still some clues of the former GWR line in the bridge numbering and other items. The recent aplpication of bridge identification plates has been enlightening!

I spent a day in Westbury - in sunshine and showers. The main reason for the visit was to get a shot of 08995, however, all I managed were quick shots from the train as I passed it. Still, I used the day to get some photos of the traffic on offer. It seemed much quieter thatn in previous visits - especially for freight.

Steve & Mike cooperated in the production of a book entitled West From Salisbury published by Millstream Books with proceeds going to a local Salisbury chartity, the Stars Appeal. I happened to run into them at Salisbury station today as they continue to publicise the book and the appeal.

Courtesy of RD, three of us were shown the inner sanctum at Waterloo on 7th July. Very impressed we were too. No wonder South West Trains has a good punctuality record!

100 years of the Eastleigh locomotive works was commemorated over the weekend 23-25 May 2009. The works was closed a few years ago, but brought back into use by a private company. Many locomotives were brought on site for the event. The photos are arranged in the order that they were taken.

59001-4 first moved in this country when they were towed by 47294 from Southampton to Westbury on 24th January 1986. Here are a few photos in the Salisbury area.

The MOD sidings at Bramley near Basingstoke were closed in 1987. They were visited by a special on 1st March 1987 operated by a pair of Hampshire Units 205026 and 205033.
The lines crossed under the main Basingstoke-Reading line in several places with an extensive track layout.

Some shots of Corrall Queen at Dibles Wharf in Southampton. Most were taken on 16 December 1972 when the loco was handed over to the Bluebell Railway.

A selection of railway photos taken in Salisbury. An interesting period still with much variety. In August 1981 the semaphore signals were replaced and soon afterwards the restored Laverstock Loop was brought into use.

Following a chat with the owner of the old station house at Dean, I decided to see what photos I had in my collection. I first took photos at Dean just before the colour light signalling was installed and the local box closed along with installation of an AHB crossing.

A brand new mainline steam loco constructed in Darlington. It is seen in steam on Saturday 9th August 2008 - in pouring rain!!

A celebration of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the line.

A selection of photos taken at the recent event at Merehead and Cranmore. A dull drizzly day, but well worth going. I've left out some of the locos present as they are well covered elsewhere.

On 12th July 1969 there was an open day event at Cricklewood. I only took a few photos. The most interesting loco present was Kestrel.

I heard someone say, "It's like having your own massive train set". Long Marston is a huge site with miles of track and sidings. On the open days held on 7th and 8th June, the sidings which held most of the locomotives were open to view and DMU and steam shuttle services operated past much of the rest of the site. Full marks to the staff (small in number) who organised this day. The main rail business is operated by Motorail Logistics and the Straford & Broadway Railway Society also have a presence.
The photos here are a selection to hopefully portray something of the site - they are in the order that were taken on the day.

In 1980/1 HSTs were diverted via Salisbury and Yeovil off their normal route to the west. This period is also interesting as Salisbury's track layout was being updated ready for resignalling which took place in August 1981.

3 days in April 2008 visiting Severn Tunnel Junction, Newport and Cardiff.

Some photos taken on 7th April following a trip to Gatwick airport to drop off a friend. All the passenger traffic is unit based and I was attempting to seek out the photographic possibilities of these two stations.

Some photos taken in October 1965 at Barrow Hill following cessation of steam working. A varied collection of small tank engines had worked here, some of ancient origins and one - 47005 only built in the 1950s to an older design.

Just over an hour spent at Cheadle Hulme on Saturday 23rd February 2008.

Some photos taken today on this small narrow gauge line on the route of the Somerset & Dorset near Templecombe. It's fully signalled and well worth a visit.
