The recent aplpication of bridge identification plates has been enlightening!

Brunel was here. A plaque on the frontage of the old GWR terminus station. The old GWR station. A 1902 GWR boundary post. In the last few years, much work has been done in providing separate cycleways on each side of the bridge. This plate gives bridge number 242A at 84m 36ch. Another palte gives number 242 - I assume the new additions were given the 'A'. A short distance west of the station is Ashfield Road. The southern part of the bridge is number 240 in the series which starts in London, giving a mileage of 84m 3ch. The view under the bridge. The southern part was part of the locoshed sidings, the middle part the SR main line and the far northern part the GWR route to Westbury, now part of the DMU depot. Under the middle of the bridge it becomes number 76, with a milage of 133m 77ch - from Paddington via Westbury - even though part of the route beyond the depot headshunt no longer exists. The SAL annotation is used for the Salisbury-Westbury route. The north end of Ashfield Road. The plate gives number 72 at 132m 58ch. The remains of the GWR route here were used to access the factory with regular workings of china clay slurry tanks. The plate on this bridge has Wilton correct, but referes to Penen Road - the road over the bridge is Penning Road. Here's an interesting item - Wilton is spelt 'Wiltin' and Tuckers Pit Hole seems to refer to Tinkerpit nearby. Heavy trucks visiting the factory here have caused many scrapes to the brickwork. No oval plate was visible on this bridge. At Quidhampton, this is the southern arch - 244. The northern arch on the GWR route. This is bridge 75 at 133m 60ch. This is bridge 241 at 84m 11ch. A short distance further is Cherry Orchard Lane. This is the southern arch with the wall to the right being the remains of the SR loco depot. Next is Skew Bridge - here with 33016 passing. The GWR side of Skew Bridge. Which has now been filled in and obliterated.
